[Felix is sitting for this one, his lower body hidden, but the sharp-eyed might notice that his crutch is nowhere in sight. His uniform is also gone for good (for now). He's at the long metal table in his barracks, and the surface is absolutely covered with wires, cables, microchips... It looks like he's dismantled an entire fleet's worth of communicators.

He seems a little annoyed about it.]

Does anyone have a spare computer they could lend me? Or even just a motherboard and a serial port connector cable.

I think I'm starting to get the hang of it now, Doc. I... thank you, really. It's a big improvement.

I'm still getting used to the weight, but otherwise, no. It seems fine.

And it's nice to actually get some use out of the frakking knee again. [He's still got his own, but the old prosthetic was so bulky that it was impossible to bend. Now, he rubs his knee and swings his leg experimentally, smiling a little.]

I've been trying to work out how these communicators function, but the Admiral doesn't seem to like that idea. [He nods to the table full of innards.] That? That's all from mine.

[And Narvin would probably put a bug in it to make sure that Felix doesn't do anything nefarious with it.]

Commander Tucker and Captain Kirk took apart one in October and found nothing useful. What are you hoping a computer would do to assist you?

I can imagine. No offense, but that old prosthetic was kind of absurd.

I know I haven't been the... easiest patient to work with.

[Something in his face flickers at the use of the men's titles, but he doesn't address it.]

I thought I'd try to tap in from an external source. See if I could find anything interesting. What's not useful to... the Captain and the Commander... might be useful to me.

I'm trying to analyze the communicators. It's not complex -- or it shouldn't be, anyway. I just don't have the equipment.

I'm willing to loan you the equipment, but I can tell you now that the communicators are quite unhackable. The base code is utter nonsense.

I've done a fair amount of work while I've been here, and I've never found anything to actually explain how they work. [And he should, because hacking is like, basic addition to him, and if there's one thing he didn't miss about the Barge, it was the complete lack of actual explanations for things.]

Be cautious. We once opened a panel on the ship and found packing material rather than wiring. If there are proper components inside, they're likely there for the aesthetic more than to provide function.

So I'm coming to understand. [And he's starting to sound pretty damn sour about it.]

Still, you're welcome to borrow what you need, if you wish to see it for yourself.

[Narvin is pretending to be generous. In truth he's curious to see what this rather new inmate would do if given access to a bit of computer equipment and a bugged computer is an opportunity for him to get that information. If Felix is plotting to build superweapons in his spare time, like Dr. Lewis used to, Narvin would rather know now than be taken by surprise.]

[It's not totally invalid, given that Felix's chief contribution to history in his own world will have been hacking and hijacking an entire battlestar. But no -- for now, his motives are innocent.]

I would like to, yes. Can I come and pick it up from you, or...?

((OOC: Is it all right for Narvin to have noticed that Felix's cabin is next door to his? If you'd rather not--if Felix is being secretive about letting people know where he lives--I can edit.))

[...Although Felix does look slightly alarmed by it.] Uh... Yes. Five-fifteen.

I'll be there within half an hour.

[It doesn't take that long to gather the things Felix requested, and it certainly doesn't take that long to walk next door. But Narvin uses the extra time to quickly plant his bug and create a one-way link to his surveillance computer. With the bug he'll have complete remote access to the loaned computer, so long as Felix doesn't find it and disengage it.

Twenty-five minutes later, he knocks on Felix's door.]

[Wistfully, because doesn't everyone do that? Barge rite of passage.] One time I opened those things I found bubbles.

[Felix has spent the interim continuing to mess with his communicator, hoping, despite what all the others are saying, to come up with something useful. After 25 minutes, though, he's more frustrated than ever, and pretty relieved when he hears the knock. He goes to the door and swings open the hatch for Narvin.]

I'm sorry, I can't say I remember your name. I appreciate you coming, though.

[If Narvin saw him around in his first few weeks, the difference should be quite pronounced now: the crutch really is gone entirely, and although he's still limping slightly, it looks to be on two legs. Behind him, the table is still covered with parts, and now it can be seen that he was actually taking the communicator apart while he was still talking on it, the back cover lying halfway across the table, its insides tumbling away from the screen.]
