Re-Entry 07: Video/Spam

[Felix's video is on, but he's not actually very visible; just the edge of his shoulder at the corner of the screen, moving as he does... something with his communicator. It's stationary on the table in his room, but it jostles very slightly every few seconds as he fiddles with it. Most of the view is of his extremely generic-looking if surprisingly rumpled bed.]

I'm sure I'm just repeating some of the chatter that's already gone out over the warden filter, but... has anyone else noticed that our communicators are starting to pick up radio waves? Has anyone gotten a signal? [He pauses, with another slight twitch of the screen.] And I don't suppose anyone has a spare I could borrow?

[Whatever he's doing, he's too absorbed to switch filters, and this isn't secret enough to make private, so he just continues from there:] Narvin, I'm going to try this out in the CES. I might be able to club together a rudimentary DRADIS, maybe even a motion detector... [He pulls back a little bit now, just enough to get one eye on the screen. He's not smiling any more than usual, but he looks oddly excited.] Dean? I'll see you up there at the usual time. Uh, bring the Colt.

[It's a while before he makes it to the pub. He really does go to work for a bit, but mostly that's because he needs the time to pull himself together. He's feeling manic and angry at the same time, disjointed, at loose ends with himself in a way he hasn't been in a long time. In the end, he pays a visit to Dean to settle himself and has a cigarette on the deck first, and then makes his way to the pub, knocking on the door.]

[This teasingly, but he remembers another conversation that started out very similar to this, and cranes his neck in much the same way as if he can peer over the edge of Felix's screen at what he's doing.]

You actually gettin' anything besides junk this time? [Radio waves gets his attention; he's not at the level Felix is, he's no engineer, but he did cobble together a homemade EMF meter out of the remains of a walkman, among other things. Radio waves he understands well enough.]

No, nothing. [He's back off the screen, and there's not much to see. He's honestly forgotten he didn't put it on voice.] I can't say I'm expecting much out of it, but at least there are things that can be done with it... assuming the Admiral doesn't turn it into popcorn first.

Well and if he turns it into popcorn we'll still be able to eat it.

...which might get awkward if it goes back.

You can use the office if you need any of the tools in there.

It hurts me when you sound so surprised that I'm an adult, you know.

I will. [Hey, look, so far he doesn't want to poison you??] Similarly, if you become aware of any further developments, I would be very interested in hearing them.

[Admittedly, the chance of David destroying everyone with radio waves is relatively unlikely.] ...I will. I'm mostly just looking into the applications for defense and communication right now.

That seems to be a fairly common activity, after the Admiral's recent announcement. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

[ She's pretty drunk by this point, but not so much that she loses her wits. Just enough that she's looser, more relaxed, and even less willing to curb her tongue. Whether this is for good or evil remains to be seen.

She hops up and gets the door open - it's really convenient that her warden item is her dogtags, because she'll never take those off - and steps aside to let him in. ]

Hey, Lieutenant. Felix. [ oh gods what does he want to be called now. ]

[He might not be much like he used to, but in person, he definitely looks more like it. The crutch is gone, he's standing straight, and at first glance it looks like the contraption below his knee is gone, too, like he might even have been fixed. It's only when he steps forward with that slight, subtle limp that it's clear he's not whole again yet. Hardware upgrade.

He shoots her a glance and a raised brow at the name, although he seems to have been expecting it.]

Felix. Please. I think I've been about as discharged as it gets.

[ She winces. ] Sorry. [ Pauses, a second, awkwardly, and then she steps forward and hugs him, tight. Hugging's not a thing she generally does, but finding him alive - that can trump some of the admittedly pretty important arguments they were having. ]

I'm glad you're alive.

[ Yeah she's a little drunk. ]

[Well, yes, that is very awkward. It's nicer than getting yelled at again, though... and the truth is, it's good to see a friendly face on home. Better than he even wants to admit, especially considering how few of those were left when he died.

So yeah, he's sort of blank for a second, but then he hugs her back, tightly if briefly.]

It's good to see you. It really is. [Even if he wishes it wasn't here.]

[ She steps back, and waves a hand at the table where she's got a bottle and a couple glasses. Bottle hasn't been drunk much, but that's only really because she's just broken it out. ]

I definitely just agreed to teach a pirate how to play Triad.

There's been no discussion about radio waves that I've seen. You may be the first person to have noticed.

Perhaps you can convince someone to let you borrow the communicator of someone who is currently in a coma. They obviously won't be needing it for a while.

I'd be interested in the results of your CES experiments.

[Private]

[That gives him pause. He withdraws enough to squint at the camera.] Seriously?

[Private]

What? Why wouldn't I be serious?

[Private]

I just... I don't know, I assumed I was probably rehashing something that had already been put out on the warden filter. [He's surprised, but after a second he looks a little pleased. Apparently he doesn't need to be a doctor or a warden to make himself useful.]

Do you know anyone who's in a coma?

[Private] If any of those are incorrect, it's an OOC mistake. Narvin would know.

I can assure you that you aren't. I do wonder why the Admiral suddenly decided to add such a primitive communication interface to the devices.

And I believe Arthur, Miss Sato, Lia de Beaumont, Merlin, Pyro, Kevin Prentiss, and Poison Ivy are all in comas at the moment.

I've been trying to trace them, but no luck so far.

Oh. [After Narvin had said he was the first to notice, it's a little disappointing to hear that Barbara has been on it all along -- but then again, of course she would be. He admires her enough to think about it that way.]

No, that'd be too easy, wouldn't it. Do you have any theories?

I figure it can't be coincidence, that this is happening after the Admiral's announcement. I think he's altered our comms, somehow, to pick up something from that world.

[itstopped]

Except that it has yet to actually pick anything up. [He sighs, putting down his tools, coming back on the screen.] But on the bright side, if I ignore what I think he wants, and the fact that it's impossible to remove anything from these frakking things, I still think there's a way to make these motion detectors work.

[Her eyes brighten, and she leans forward slightly.]
