Good morning, Doctor. My name is Felix Gaeta. I was wondering if you could tell me anything about working in the lab?

[Private to his tiny people he doesn't hate friends filter: Dean, Rhade, Dracula, Morgana... and, fine, Charles too]

I might as well get this out of the way before anything else... happens. [Like shooting someone.] What do you know about-- [He glances down, apparently at his notes.] --David and Aya? And are there any others on board? [He doesn't feel the need to clarify what kinds of others he means.]

It's... exciting and fun? The advanced technology alone can keep you occupied for a while.

[Especially when on painkillers with your drunk billionaire playboy clone. But that's beside the point.]

Did you want to know anything specific?

[That sounds awesome! up until the clone part.]

Just... anything you could tell me. What sort of work are you doing? What's the staff like?

Unless the Barge requires us to rescue them again, the projects we're working on are just hobby things. The 'staff', such as it is, usually consists of myself and Narvin. There are others but I am not certain we have a regular, come-in-every-day type of workforce.

I see. [Narvin? Ugh.] It's just the two of you? Dean mentioned a few others -- they're more part time?

I think we can all be considered part-time, Mr. Gaeta. There's no salary nor overall long-term project. I'm fortunate to be permitted in to find things to fill time with.

Why do you ask? Interested in joining up?

Potentially. I was in engineering my last time here, but I thought maybe... [But Dean hadn't mentioned that Narvin was still in charge of the place, and that's a pretty big science-boner-killer for Felix.]

If recent ports are any indication, then personally I think the more people we have in the lab, the better.

[ Yes he's keeping count on all the times Science has saved this stupid ship. ]

So I'm all for it. Recruiting isn't my job, but I can put a good word in with Narvin, if you'd like?

Why? What's happened in the ports? [He doesn't want to say no just yet, because science, but... Narvin.]

Bad driving. Or the Admiral's drunk, I don't know.

One was crash landing on an alien landscape. The science group had to create a camouflage device to get our people back home. The barge wouldn't read them as human, so mux about with a little of the natives' dna and we got it sorted out.

More recently, there was a virus going around, inflicted by certain ambitious inmates. [ Okay not a port but it still counts. ] Rex led the team, since he was the best expert we had for nanomites. We came up with a cure for the whole ship.

Really? The lab wasn't nearly so active when I was last here. [Okay, so, Narvin, but... science.]

And you don't have any complaints? About your... coworkers?

[All of the science! Join ussss. We have... beakers. And a petition to get a coffee machine in the lab.]

None. They let me work there and that's good enough for me.

[He's quiet for a second at that. What's the best way to ask, do you think it's possible that your boss is spying on you?]

Do you ever bring anything home with you from the lab?

[Politely?]

No. I never bring my work home. [He might've learned his lesson on that.] Besides, as I said, it's all hobby stuff anyway.

Narvin never gives you anything...?

Anything anything. No homework, nothing to practice on, no-- I don't know, gifts?

No computers?

Nothing like any of that, no. I prefer it that way. Keeps everything in the lab where it should be.

Hm. [That doesn't sound like the same Narvin who bugged his computer, which is interesting.] Thank you, Dr. Kozak. I might come by and take a look. It would be... it's been a while since I got to work in a lab.
