[Felix is sitting for this one, his lower body hidden, but the sharp-eyed might notice that his crutch is nowhere in sight. His uniform is also gone for good (for now). He's at the long metal table in his barracks, and the surface is absolutely covered with wires, cables, microchips... It looks like he's dismantled an entire fleet's worth of communicators.

He seems a little annoyed about it.]

Does anyone have a spare computer they could lend me? Or even just a motherboard and a serial port connector cable.

Well, that's in the past, now. I suppose if I pursue anything from here it will be just as theoretical.

Jumps? You mentioned that once. What does that mean?

[He gives him a look, like, seriously? before remembering that apparently not everyone here is used to living on ships. Not his kind of ships, anyway.]

FT-- I mean, faster-than-light jumps. They take a fair amount of work to calculate, especially for a fleet of fifty ships.

I assumed as much, but...it's not really good to make assumptions around here. I've only been exposed to one method of faster than light travel, since we don't yet have that in my time.

Then you're right. You can't exactly do that here. It's interesting, though, to hear different ways. Harper spoke about slipstreams, which is nothing like that.

I'm not saying I want to do that anymore. I've done hundreds of them -- frankly, I'll be fine if I never say the words "FTL drive" again, or look at another frakking star map.

So we're doing experiments, to keep us entertained while we're imprisoned, like lab rats. That's... pretty frakking perverse, really.

You'll find it's not the worst of his transgressions. But the work I do here is interesting enough, though the data I collect is probably false. I learn more from other people's stories than I do from what the Admiral feeds me.

Well, I am still interested in reading what you sent me... even if I have to learn to filter it through what I think you think the Admiral wants you to know.

Go ahead. Use it as you see fit. Though you'll find a sudden shift in there between when I stopped trying to rationalize it using the knowledge of physics I have now and moved to trying to relearn the rules.

Do you think he's let you? Learn the rules, I mean.

I've been given a glimpse when he wasn't in control. But that's all.

And the rest of the time? How accurate do you expect your calculations to be?
