[It's later. Felix has waited until he could do this calmly, and now there's something almost preternaturally still in his posture. He's sitting at the desk in his own room, a cigarette in one hand and what looks like a fairly lengthy typed script in the other. He draws in a deep breath, looks at the script, begins:]

I'm...

[He frowns and stops, scanning the paper again. He shakes his head slightly, sets it aside, and addresses the camera properly, squaring his shoulders.]

...I'm leaving the Barge.

I understand why the rest of you aren't, but I haven't stopped believing that you should. Most of you should, at least. There are other ways -- I'm hoping better ways -- to do what needs to be done, and I'm leaving to try and find them.

But-- [He glances down at the script again and something pulls sadly at the corner of his mouth. He looks back up at the camera and rubs absently at his knee.]

But I wanted to say thank you, first, for reminding me why I should.

[His eyes soften dangerously, just for a second.]

Thank you. Goodbye.

[And with that, he puts the cigarette back between his lips and reaches out, a little too quickly, to sign off for the last time.]

[The communicator switches on to an extreme close-up of a brown eye, narrowed in confusion. After a second, it pulls back to show Felix's face, then even farther back as he holds it out at arm's length. He appears to be wearing... chainmail? It must be, because he's got a sword in the other hand.

He smiles suddenly.]

My, but this is a marvelous work of magic! What do you call this device?

[Spam for Dean]

[Something propelled him to cabin 4-18, but now that he's here, he can't imagine what. A quest? Some item? He's rummaging through the oddly cold box by the bed when he hears the door open. He turns, raising his sword.]

Who goes there?

[Spam for the CES]

[After some further cursory exploration, Sir Felix the Very Affected has decided to set up camp -- literally -- in the CES. He didn't find much of interest in the room, but he did find ale and a great deal of what looks like useless paper to use for tinder and kindling. He sits comfortably by his crackling fire, warming his hands.]

I'm afraid Dean is in a coma. [Felix doesn't look especially happy, but if not for the content of the message itself, it would be hard to tell anything was wrong. He's being pretty matter-of-fact about it.] I assume he'll update you himself when he wakes up.

[Although, he does hesitate slightly after that.] ...I'm not sure how... Is someone from the infirmary going to come and get him, or...?

[Private to Anya]

I've got the Maintenance key if you need it.

[Private to Morgana, later]

[He has every intention of going to the lab and diving into work after that, and he does for a while, but... like he told Dean, that doesn't really work as well as it used to. And then he finds himself at loose ends, because suddenly he's realizing the great flaw in his whole I don't really need many friends theory when the two people he's closest to are comatose and the third is gone.

Things are better with Charles and Iris and even Zane than they used to be, but it's not as though he's friends with any of them, and as much as he likes Anya he suspects it would be weird to call up a teenager to hang out. That leaves his choice pretty simple:]

[Prior to Dean's post, Felix is also looking a little banged up: nothing drastically serious, but there's a bruise coloring his jaw on one side, and the evidence of a split lip at the corner of his mouth. He doesn't seem to notice much, though, and he certainly doesn't seem to care. Now that he's decided to stay on the Barge for the time being, he's pursuing his various projects with much more energy than before. Which means that even when he's eating in the dining hall he's got his nose buried in a book. Even in the pub. Still, while it won't occur to him to seek out company, he doesn't look actively hostile to it.]

[Honestly, as remarkable as what's happened is, it's almost as remarkable that Felix is the first one to notice. He just really doesn't spend that much time in his own quarters anymore. But he stops by to pick something up, and that's when he notices the changes. Specifically, this one, which is why the camera is currently on what looks like a very standard shower.]

...Trip? [If he sounds completely bewildered, it's only because he is.]

[Friends filter (if you think you're on it, etc. Including you, Morgana.)]

I, um... I graduated today. [He still doesn't really sound like he believes it.] And for those of you who know what I was thinking about why I hadn't, I think I was right, because I'm not really sure what I'm going to do next. But... whatever happens, I wanted to say... thank you. To all of you. You deserve to hear that.

Actually, that's not entirely true. I do know one thing I'm going to do next. [He smiles slightly.] The CES showed me Picon once, just once... I'm going to go to the pub, get a bottle of something, and go sit there until it shows up again. Feel free to join me.

[Private to Racetrack and Claire Bennet, separately]

I'd like to ask you a question.

[Public]

[And this one is from the CES, later, when he seems to have found both his bottle and his world. He's sitting on a long stretch of beach, a low grassy hill rising behind him, the wind and salt in his hair; and even though the sun brings out all his imperfections -- how pale he's become under the olive tones of his skin, the shock of gray hair at his temples, the dark rings under his eyes -- he looks younger and softer than he ever has before. He takes a drink from the bottle and rubs a hand over his mouth.]

[It was a very good weekend with a very bad ending for Felix, which might be why he's back to smoking in front of the camera again. The collar of his shirt is unbuttoned as well, although he otherwise seems as composed as usual.]

Do any of you know why you're here?

[He pauses, then smirks ruefully.] For once, I'm not trying to sow dissent. I don't need you to tell me what kind of monster the Admiral is. I'm just... wondering what you think it is he thinks you need to change, and...

Well, no and. Just that.

[Spam for the Lab]

[It's not unusual for Felix to stay in the lab all night if the wardens let him. He insists that he doesn't need much sleep -- so far, this has actually seemed to prove true -- and he tends to get on tears with things that interest him enough. This particular evening, something on Iris's bioreader has him absorbed, and he just doesn't make it back before it's too late to be worth going anyway. In the wee hours of the morning, he winds up drifting off at his station.

He doesn't wake up when the flood rolls in, but a little while later, a young boy -- 11 or so -- wakes to find himself, not in bed, but surrounded by a veritable sea of shining scientific equipment. His eyes widen.]

Cool!

[He found two keys in his pocket and he's not sure which is the right one, but going to this one felt more normal, somehow, so it's Dean's room in the background. Felix settles the camera carefully on the desk, fiddles with it for a second, then settles, sitting conscientiously straight-backed.]

Okay, um... [He hesitates, reaches over to fiddle with the camera again, then nods in satisfaction and sits back again. He smiles, but sort of politely.] Hi, Mom. Hi, Dad. I'm having a good time at camp. [Or... whatever.] I'll be back in a few days. I saw a bioluminescent bacterium and something called a bat flower. [What? It was cool.]

So... have a good weekend, I guess. [His polite surety fades a little. He shrugs awkwardly, then waves again and switches off the feed.]

[He's heard that this place is a prison, but it's certainly not like any prison he's ever heard of. Not like the ones in the movies, anyway. He'll be busily exploring throughout the flood, poking his nose into just about any place that will let him in, up to and including the infirmary, the CES, the pool... and of course the library.]

Can I ask, did that at least... change anything for you? Is anything different now? [Please, gods, don't let him have gone through this for nothing.]

[Private to Iris, today]

[Things have settled back down, but he still craves his distractions, the freedom from having the free time to dwell on everything that's been happening. What's more, he craves the work. The science. He'd never say that Narvin leaving has left a hole in him, but there's definitely a space he needs to fill.

Still, he wrestles with this call for a while before making it. He doesn't hate Iris, but that doesn't mean he doesn't hate some of the things she chooses to be. Like a force of chaos.]

It's late, at the end of Narvin's day, when he approaches the Time Lord, looking hesitant.]

OKAY, SO. Felix's version of Silent Hill is going to be split up into four parts for maximum efficiency. Each part takes place partly in the Light and partly in the Dark, with the Dark becoming more and more of a thing in each phase. At the end of each phase, there will be a shift from Light to Dark or vice-versa that will trap one character in that phase while the others go on. Of course being separated from the group doesn't negate the ability to run around and have adventures, and it will be possible for the trapped characters to go back and meet up with each other, just not with whoever's with Felix. So there will be plenty of opportunities to play in this little Hellscape and punch monsters in the face and whatnot.

WHAT KIND OF MONSTERS, YOU ASK? And what are the phases like?

So the concept here is that Felix has a shameful and currently very much secret history of making incredibly bad judgment calls, usually involving trusting someone he shouldn't, and going into massive denial when bad shit ultimately happens. The town is going to encourage him to go through this cycle again, with the ultimate goal of having him kill the entire party (and himself) and have his soul stay in Silent Hill forever. To do that, it's going to throw his past failures at him and then give him a final boss in the form of someone he trusts who will try (and fail) to lure him to commit murder.

The upshot is that all these nasty secrets of his are going to get spilled out (hi Racetrack and Dean) and he's going to have a hard lesson in facing reality and not being a fuck-up.

The monsters here are Raw Shocks, who will gradually shift as time goes by. Most of them will wind up looking like distorted versions of humanoid Cylons, but feel free to make them look like monsters from y'all's worlds as some psychological static gets through. The deeper they go, the more things will take on a techno-organic bent, especially in the Darkness: lots of spiny things and things with wires. One common monster will be humanoid, with cables coming out of its palms, stigmata-style (I can show you a video clip that sort of explains what I mean, it's kind of gross). The walls in the Darkness may glow red and drip with fluid, as may monsters' eyes (if they have them). In the Dark, characters may also experience a rushing sensation from time to time, like being pulled by a vacuum.

Phase One: This area is mostly Light. As they get into the SH environment, their radios will start to play broadcasts from this jackass (warning for blood and bad video quality). He's going to taunt Felix through his communicator specifically, and Felix is going to throw his communicator aside in disgust, just in time for sirens to sound and the Darkness (and a monster) to gobble it up. They'll go looking for it and encounter a Gaius creature in a locked room, and then they can all fucking wail on him and it will be very satisfying. The defeated Gaius will give up a pen and indicate that writing their names down on the door will let them through to the next safe area. However, Cain will be last to go through and will be trapped by the Dark/Light switch.

Phase Two: New Caprica'ed, bitches! A mix of Light and Dark. The monsters here will seem more human and more tortured; there will also be children present. Racetrack may see glimpses of people she knew, as well as scattered voices on the radio. There are what appear to be many mass graves in the area. Felix won't have his communicator back at this point, but the other members will start to get broadcasts from this other jackass, cajoling them to find it so she can "talk to him." He's going to panic and pretty much fuck off during a Light spell and they can do some exploring and eventually all converge on one of the mass graves, which will have his communicator in the center of it, so have fun touching the bodies -- especially when the Darkness hits and they come alive. They'll get the communicator and get out safely, but Dean will be left behind in the next Light-to-Dark switch.

Phase Three: This one starts in the Darkness, back to Cylon themes, very technological environment and monsters now. Also peppered with periodic explosions. Some of the monsters here will move more awkwardly, crab-crawling or listing heavily, like their limbs don't work; these will have what look like bullet holes in them. The oozing and glowing on the walls will be very present here. This is a pretty short jaunt through the level, which will get them to the entrance to the Labyrinth. There will be a Monster Tom Zarek waiting to fight them, with guns and explosive abilities. After they take him out, Trip and Felix will go inside and Racetrack will be left behind by the next switch.

Phase Four: Oh, shit, it's the Labyrinth. Oh, shit, it's Dee! (Warning for death/suicide/blood towards the middle/end of that video.) Dee is going to have a nice chat with Trip and Felix during the Light and try to convince them to help her complete an engineering/circuitry puzzle that will "erase" Felix's mistakes and "free" the others... of course, this is by blowing up the Labyrinth and killing everyone above it, but she's not mentioning that just yet. Trip will help Felix through not making the dumbass murder decision, please. Felix will say goodbye to Dee, and then she'll abandon them for one last nasty bit of Darkness to fight their way through back out of the Labyrinth-- and then they'll all be released! The traumatic end.

[The process takes a while, and it hurts more than he expected it would... but then, how do you anticipate something like this? For everything he's seen on the Barge, wonders and horrors alike, and even after seeing Charles healed, he'd never even imagined this would be possible until Merlin mentioned it only a few hours ago. He hasn't even really come to grips with the idea before it's happening, before this beneficent stranger's blood is moving into his veins, and suddenly his right leg feels like it's on fire, and--

--then it's now, and he's walking on two legs for the first time in a year. Slowly, carefully. He's not used to it anymore. He's gotten accustomed to the limp. This feels too light and too heavy at the same time -- more volume, less weight -- and the skin, he has skin again, feels too raw, and nothing feels quite as right as he thought it would. But his ankle bends where it's supposed to, and he can feel it when it does. He can walk. He can run, at least once he gets used to it again.

He ends up literally walking the entirety of the Barge, up one deck and down the next. By the time he gets to Level Eight, it's finally sunk in and he's jogging, just because he can.]

[Felix's video is on, but he's not actually very visible; just the edge of his shoulder at the corner of the screen, moving as he does... something with his communicator. It's stationary on the table in his room, but it jostles very slightly every few seconds as he fiddles with it. Most of the view is of his extremely generic-looking if surprisingly rumpled bed.]

I'm sure I'm just repeating some of the chatter that's already gone out over the warden filter, but... has anyone else noticed that our communicators are starting to pick up radio waves? Has anyone gotten a signal? [He pauses, with another slight twitch of the screen.] And I don't suppose anyone has a spare I could borrow?

[Whatever he's doing, he's too absorbed to switch filters, and this isn't secret enough to make private, so he just continues from there:] Narvin, I'm going to try this out in the CES. I might be able to club together a rudimentary DRADIS, maybe even a motion detector... [He pulls back a little bit now, just enough to get one eye on the screen. [Some people dream in comas, but not Felix Gaeta; he's never been blessed or cursed with visions like some people he knows, and he winds up having the best sleep he's had in years, even in his black-market-morpha days. It's the waking up that's difficult.

He's expecting a very different ceiling when he opens his eyes, and when he registers the infirmary lights he goes from groggy to very awake in about one millisecond, sitting up with a strangled sound. The last thing he remembers is peacefully falling asleep in a bed that wasn't his, but the first thing he thinks now is that something must have happened that he's blocking out, that they must have taken something else. He takes hasty stock and feels the usual little pang on seeing the hollow fall of the sheet below his knee, followed by relief when he realizes it's the only thing missing.

That makes it easier to figure out what did actually happen, too. He looks up and rubs his throat, both because it's dry and because he remembers all too well how he'd greeted Gaius coming out of one of these... then again, he doubts there's anyone here who wants to wring his neck quite that badly.]

[Technically, this is actually addressed to the Admiral and CC'ed to the other wardens:]

Sir, it's come to my attention that some of the more vocal inmates, led by Dr. Lewis, are planning to instigate a riot and takeover in the near future. Requesting authority for myself and my fellow wardens to deal with the matter as we see fit.

[And this part is to the others:] Personally, I recommend limiting communicator access for the time being, increasing security on all level common areas, and either limiting access to or assigning someone to keep a close eye on the pub.

I'd also like to request an unpaired warden to help with security for my inmate, if there are any available and so inclined. He took a risk giving me this information and I'd rather not see him harmed for it.

[This, again, to the Admiral:] Thank you, sir. [He salutes once and signs off.

This is not the first time the young Lieutenant Gaeta has made a broadcast like this. A relatively new warden, he has yet to lose the shine from the apple or from the buttons of his starched blue uniform. He's been adamant that as he works for the Admiral, so must he report properly to the Admiral. He follows protocol. He has yet to remove his uniform (except to clean it).

Aside from being a little stiff and overly formal, though, he generally comes across as a decent and certainly enthusiastic young man; friendly, too, albeit better at his job than he is at talking to people.]

[Lieutenant Gaeta, like his counterpart, lives by a very strict schedule. He wakes in the barracks of the Battleship Atlantia every morning at 0500 hours, goes running in the gym on two hale and healthy legs, and is showered, breakfasted, and at work in the lab by 0700, where he works on studying communicator technology. He doesn't smoke yet and he has yet to pick up any tattoos, but he does very occasionally stop by for a single drink at the pub in the evenings. Never more than one, of course: he's working.]

[Felix is smoking, because this place is getting a little stressful and he finally got a chance to get his hands on a pack. It's not the effect of the changes he minds so much: the level of luxury the Barge usually offers is miles above what he had as an officer on Galactica, even as chief of staff on New Caprica, much less an inmate in a brig. This is a lot closer to what he's used to. He can cope.]

Well, Dean, I guess I should have taken you up on that fridge. Or at least what was inside it.

[It's the fact that there are changes at all that's bothering him, like so many others. It's the wondering where it's going to stop. It's the undercurrent of panic. And it's what he's hearing come out of people's mouths. He taps the cigarette nervously on the side of his desk.]

In my last broadcast, I talked-- sang-- whatever-- about rebellion. About revolution. My situation wasn't really all that different from this one: a population stressed to the breaking point, trapped and suffering under an indifferent and uncommunicative leadership. A series of unasked-for changes that put everyone at risk. I've always assumed that if I'm to graduate, I have to repent of my mutineering ways, but seeing even wardens talk about finding their way to the bridge now... [He shrugs.] Can you really blame me?

Anyway, what I actually want to say is this: where I failed was in my lack of attention to detail. Is anyone prepared to cover all the bases right now? If this situation continues... or doesn't. If a group of you does take the bridge. If the Admiral takes matters even further into his own hands. If he stops giving the wardens supplies. Are we prepared? Obviously not.

I'm not saying this to alarm anyone, although I'm sure there are those among you who will take it as an excuse one way or the other anyway. I'm just saying that I think it's time we started to try getting organized. Save water. Save food. Medicine. Oxygen. Even save the alcohol, because I can promise that you'll miss the pub a few weeks from now a lot more than you do today. If we have an unlimited supply for now, we need to be taking better advantage of it.

And if you do want to take the bridge, I suggest you do so with your contingency plans well thought-out in advance. It ends badly if you don't.

[Filtered to Lab Staff]

Assuming that the Barge actually has a lab after next week, I was... I was wondering about coming to work for one of you. My degree is in engineering, but I've done a lot of work in genetics, and I'm pretty well versed in the other major disciplines.
